Media invited to join the federal Finance Minister during tour of the new General Motors Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE)
March 23, 2010
Jim Flaherty and his provincial colleagues will be walking through this one-of-a-kind facility
OSHAWA, ON. - Journalists are invited to join federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty as he tours the new General Motors Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology's (UOIT) north Oshawa campus. The Minister will be joined by his provincial colleagues, MPPs Christine Elliott, Jerry Ouellette and John O'Toole.
ACE will be the first commercial research, development and innovation centre of its kind in Canada, and in many respects, the world. This is a place where industry, researchers and students will collaborate to create, test and validate the vehicles and products of the future. ACE will have an array of testing equipment, including one of the largest and most sophisticated climatic wind tunnels on the planet. The facility is scheduled to open for business in 2010.
Video and photos are permitted, however there are areas on the tour that are very dark. Everyone taking the tour will be supplied with safety boots, vests, hard hats and safety glasses and will be required to sign a waiver.
As this is an active construction site, media are being asked to confirm their attendance in advance so we can have a firm idea of numbers.
