Chairman's Charity Classic raises $320,000 at 15th annual tournament, surpassing $4-million mark

OSHAWA, Ont. - Thanks to the efforts of sponsors, donors, volunteers and more than 150 golfers, the annual Durham Region Chairman's Charity Classic golf tournament held on June 9 was another huge success, raising $320,000. Held at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Ajax, Ont., the annual event officially surpassed the $4-million mark over its 15-year lifetime through the support of hundreds of community members, golfers and dignitaries as they teed off for a chance to improve the lives of individuals living in Durham Region.
The tournament, hosted by Durham Region Chairman Roger Anderson, has created and maintained a legacy of giving to community organizations including providing assistance to students in financial need at University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and Durham College and assisting with the ongoing construction of the Abilities Centre Durham.
Representatives from each of the three organizations receiving proceeds from the tournament were on hand for a cheque presentation and the chance to extend their gratitude for the ongoing and enthusiastic support of sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants.
This year's tournament featured the opportunity for participants to win one of three Ford Mustang Cobras provided by Fraser Ford in Oshawa, Ont. The live and silent auction prizes included a VIP trip for two to the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, Que.; a one-week stay at a condominium in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach; lunch with the Honourable Jim Flaherty; a Briars Golf Club excursion; UOIT and Durham College tuition packages and much more.
