UOIT makes its mark at GTA security conference

A team representing the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) captured top spot in the Capture the Flag security competition at Sector 2012 (SECurity TORonto), the biggest security conference in the Greater Toronto Area.
Four teams of UOIT students and graduates from the Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT) Networking and IT Security program took part in the highly attended two-day competition at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The UOIT-FBIT booth attracted great interest with many people stopping to ask questions about the competition, the university and the program. UOIT’s teams also participated in multiple media interviews.
UOIT organized the event with Sentry Metrics, a Toronto, Ontario-based security company.
The UOIT organizing team included:
- Dr. Khalil El-Khatib, Associate Professor, FBIT;
- Josh Lowe, Senior Lecturer, FBIT;
- Abdul-Aziz Almehmadi, PhD student (Computer Science);
- Rene Altagracia, IT Networking and Security graduate, and current MITS student;
- Daniel Da Silva, FBIT – IT Networking and Security student;
- Kevin Foxton, IT Networking and Security graduate, and Master of Information Technology Security (MITS) graduate; and
- Garrett Hayes, IT Networking and Security graduate, and current Master of Science student (Computer Science).
