Dr. Atef Mohany, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), has been recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for his paper Fluidelastic Instability Modelling of Loosely Supported Multi-Span U-Tubes in Nuclear Steam Generators.

“I’d like to congratulate Dr. Mohany on his award – having a prize paper is a testament to his high quality research,” said Dr. Tarlochan Sidhu, Dean, FEAS. “His achievement also reflects directly upon the overall depth and capacity of our entire faculty. I know that his peers at UOIT share great pride in seeing him receive this award.”

Dr. Mohany’s research published in the Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology (JPVT) won the 2012 Editor’s Choice Award for outstanding paper. This award is only offered once a year for technical papers that contribute to the design, analysis and development of pressure vessel components and their applications in nuclear power plants.

“The JVPT is one of the oldest ASME journals,” said Dr. Mohany. “Receiving such a prestigious international award from the ASME is a great recognition not only for the quality of my work but also for my contributions to the nuclear industry.”

Dr. Mohany will be presented his award at the ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference in Paris, France in mid-July.
