Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT Faculty of Education summer camps

Experience Science Magic, LEGO camps and more this summer at UOIT!

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) Faculty of Education is offering a series of unique science and nature camps for children this summer, all starting the week of July 2. The camps highlight a variety of hands-on learning and fun activities for kids.

Children ages six to 14 can choose from a variety of co-ed camp programs such as:

  • Super Sleuths – Campers can test their detective abilities and solve mysteries using forensics and technology and report their findings through the creation of podcasts, audio books, websites and more.
  • Natural Curiosity – A great camp for young people who are adventurous and enjoy being outdoors.

Girls can also choose from a variety of all-girls camp programs such as:

  • Science Magic – Gives campers the opportunity to learn about engineering, technology and science! Campers will learn something different each day through hands-on activities and fun challenges in a team environment. Science Magic campers will be able to take the fun back home with them and engage in activities they learned at camp in their own backyard.
  • Girl Power – An all-girl LEGO camp offers girls the chance to develop their skills in science and engineering through hands-on learning. Campers will be able to design, build and program robots from the ground up and watch them dance and sing!
