Dr. Mika Nonoyama, who joined the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the beginning of January as Assistant Professor, has successfully submitted her first research grant as a UOIT core faculty member.

The grant, Home long-term mechanical ventilation, health care costs and utilization, was reviewed and approved by the Canadian Lung Association for nearly $27,000 from February 2014 to January 2015. The goal of the study is to examine the patterns of private and public health-care utilization and costs for ventilated assisted individuals (VAIs) and their family caregivers living at home in British Columbia, and determine how they compare to those living in Ontario. The study will also describe the health-related quality of life of VAIs and their caregivers.

“We would like to congratulate Mika on her recent success,” said Dr. Ellen Vogel, Dean, FHS. “This is a great start to 2014 and to her career path at UOIT.”
