Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Campus Library is holding Research Metrics and RefWorks workshops at the north Oshawa and downtown Oshawa locations. Please note: Workshop participants should bring their laptops.

The following sessions are available:

Wednesday, March 19 - 61 Charles Street Building, Room 108

  • Research Metrics - 11 a.m. to noon
  • RefWorks - 2 to 3 p.m.

Thursday, March 20 - North Oshawa Library, Room 132  

  • RefWorks - 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Research Metrics - 2 to 3 p.m.

About Research Metrics

Research Metrics measure impact and provide insight into the influence of specific journal publications, individual articles and authors. During this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Identify the highest-impact journals on a topic
  • Find the highest-impact articles by citation numbers
  • Survey the literature on a topic backwards and forwards through citation information
  • Track author impact

About RefWorks

RefWorks is a citation management tool that helps you download, organize, store and add citations directly into your assignments. During this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Create a RefWorks account
  • Download and store citations in RefWorks
  • Organize your citations
  • Create in-text citations and bibliographies in Microsoft Word
  • Share your citations with your colleagues
