Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

For the second time in the program’s five-year history, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) women’s soccer team will compete in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Final Four tournament.

The Ridgebacks earned a spot in the OUA semi-finals with a dominant 2-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs at Oshawa’s Civic Fields on October 29. UOIT will meet the Windsor Lancers in a semi-final match on Friday, November 4 in London, Ontario. The tournament host Western Mustangs will play the Queen’s Gaels in the other semi-final. The medal games take place on Sunday, November 6.

The Ridgebacks posted the best record in the OUA during the regular season, going 13-2-1 en route to capturing the East Division title.

The Ridgebacks other trip to the provincial championship came back in 2014 where the team won a bronze medal, their first in program history.

The OUA Final Four will determine the Ontario representatives for the U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport) eight-team national championship from November 10 to 13 at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
