Ridgeback spirit shines at record-breaking 2025 Chancellor’s Challenge
September 26, 2025

Ontario Tech made university history by holding this year’s Chancellor’s Challenge and Homecoming on the same day, combining Ridgeback and community spirit, campus activities and milestone fundraising.
On September 20, more than 700 alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and sponsors came together at Polonsky Commons for the energetic run, walk and roll, raising more than $211,000 in support of student success.
The achievement not only surpassed last year’s fundraising total but also strengthened the university’s mission to empower students by expanding scholarships, advancing innovative teaching and research, and providing vital support where it’s needed most.
Participants enjoyed a memorable day on campus, starting with the five-kilometre event through Ontario Tech’s north campus. After crossing the finish line, guests gathered for outdoor games, interactive stations and a barbecue lunch, connecting with fellow alumni, students, colleagues and friends.
The celebration continued with Homecoming activities, including lab tours and demos, a conversation on artificial intelligence, family-friendly attractions, robotics demonstrations and spirited moments cheering on the Ridgebacks men’s hockey team.
For the first time, Ontario Tech Chancellor Mitch Frazer presented Chancellor’s Challenge participants with trophies celebrating fundraising achievements and community spirit. The Champions of Change award went to the leading fundraising team, while additional awards highlighted outstanding student contributions, team spirit and creative efforts that brought extra energy to the day.
“This record-breaking Chancellor’s Challenge shows what’s possible when our community unites to empower students,” said Chancellor Frazer.
Over its five-year history, the Chancellor’s Challenge has raised more than $700,000 to advance the university’s Tech with a Conscience campaign. The event continues to unite the community creating an environment that prioritizes student success and supports innovation that uplifts humanity and safeguards our planet.
There’s still time to make a gift in support of Ontario Tech students, as donations are being accepted until Tuesday, September 30.
