Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Faculty of Education to host first job fair

OSHAWA, Ont. - The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is preparing to host its first annual Faculty of Education Job Fair, which will include 12 employers from local public and separate school boards, as well as international institutions. Over 90 Education students will be on hand to meet with these recruiters.

"Since the Faculty of Education is a professional program, the approach to recruiting is different because it is very specific and detailed," said Anna DeGrauwe of Career + Employment Services. "Last year, individual information sessions were held for school boards. This year, we're hoping that the one-on-one experience of a fair is the best way for students to gather the information they need."

The Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, January 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room G213 of the Gordon Willey building.

The Faculty of Education at UOIT prepares students to teach sciences, mathematics or computer science in Grades 7 to 12. Professors use their passion for teaching to ensure that teacher candidates develop the specific skills they need as future educators.
