Celebrating future-focused supporters during Leave a Legacy Month
Ontario Tech recognizes the powerful impact of planned giving on students' lives
May 28, 2025

Thanks to the generosity of individuals who have chosen to invest in students’ futures through planned giving, Ontario Tech University students have access to more resources that empower them to pursue their academic dreams and thrive in their future careers.
As part of Leave a Legacy Month (May), the university recognized E.P. Taylor Legacy Society members for their lasting contributions to students and the university community. The Society, named in honour of Canadian entrepreneur, innovator, dedicated supporter of education and thoroughbred horse breeder Edward Plunket (E.P.) Taylor, provides opportunities for donors to be acknowledged now and remain connected to the life of the university by leaving a planned gift in their will to Ontario Tech. In doing so, each member of this esteemed group makes a measurable difference in the lives of students and the future of responsible innovation.
Since the Society’s founding in 2015, the university has distributed more than $7 million in planned gifts, which have supported scholarships and bursaries, contributed to the enhancement of advanced infrastructure, and powered groundbreaking research and industry partnerships.
“I chose to leave a planned gift to the university because I believe in the power of education to open doors and inspire purpose,” said Irene Rahme, a member of the E.P. Taylor Legacy Society. “Supporting Ontario Tech students means investing in the changemakers of tomorrow who will use their knowledge and skills to build a better tomorrow.”
This dedication reflects the spirit of Tech with a Conscience, the university’s boldest fundraising initiative to date.
“As part of our Tech with a Conscience campaign, we are focused on shaping a future where technology is built with human values at its core,” said Lee Hays, Executive Director, Advancement. “E.P. Taylor Legacy Society members are making this possible through their foresight, generosity and deep commitment to the Ontario Tech community.”
More about E.P. Taylor’s legacy
The founder of Windfields Farm in Oshawa, Ontario, E.P. Taylor donated land in 1966 to benefit students in the Durham Region. His legacy continued in 1996 when his children, Charles Taylor and Judith Mappin, gifted part of the Windfields property to help establish Ontario Tech. Today, his grandson Jefferson Mappin carries that commitment forward as the E.P. Taylor Legacy Society Champion, encouraging others to support the university through planned giving.
Members of the E.P. Taylor Society continue this legacy, ensuring the university’s mission and its students will thrive for generations to come. Learn more about how you can leave a legacy at the university by visiting the Ontario Tech Gift Planning website.
