Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Durham Regional Science Fair to be held on campus

OSHAWA, Ont. - On Saturday, April 23, the Durham Regional Science Fair 2005 will triumphantly return as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) hosts this exciting event from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Science building of the Oshawa campus.

All interested students from Grades 4 to 12 were invited to attend, as this fair showcases scientific talents and recognizes excellence in the physical, biological and computing sciences. During the day, students will have an opportunity to interact with UOIT professors and receive feedback on their projects.

This event is particularly exciting because the winners go on to represent the region at the national level from May 15 to 22 during the Canada Wide Science Fair in Vancouver, British Columbia.

While at the event, spectators are also invited to attend the Faculty of Science Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors have a chance to tour the new labs (with demonstrations in biology, chemistry and physics); take a look into one of our newest research facilities; learn more about available programs at UOIT; and speak with faculty and students. For more information on either event, visit www.science.uoit.ca.
