Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT to host Durham Regional Science Fair 2006

Competitive event showcases scientific talents of local students

OSHAWA, ON. - Join local students in Grades four through 12 along with Sci-Tech Ontario and members of the Faculty of Science at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) as UOIT hosts the second annual Durham Regional Science Fair on Saturday, April 8.

Organized by Sci-Tech Ontario, the fair will showcase approximately 40 different science projects, giving students a unique opportunity to showcase their scientific talents and recognize excellence in the physical, biological and engineering sciences.

The long term objective of the event is to instill a passion for science and research in young minds with students having an opportunity to interact and receive feedback on their projects from professors at the UOIT Faculties of Science and Engineering and Applied Science.

Winners from the Durham Regional Science Fair go on to compete as part of Team Sci-Tech Ontario at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Saguenay, Quebec from May 14 to 21.

9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Public viewing of exhibits - 11:10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 1:30 p.m.
Awards ceremony - 1:45 p.m.
