Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT to host Student Research Days to promote research and graduate studies

OSHAWA, Ont. - Join some of the best and brightest minds at UOIT as undergraduate students from the Faculties of Business and Information Technology; Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies; Education; Engineering and Applied Sciences; Health Sciences; Science; and the School of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science present their research findings to their peers, faculty members and the community during UOIT's Student Research Days.

On August 9, students from the Faculty of Science will participate in a Science Summer Research Student Workshop focused solely on science research undertaken by undergraduate students during their summer time at UOIT. The day will consist of 15-minute presentations by the students about their projects.

On August 10, over 50 students will present the results of their research work in oral and poster presentations. Nicole Geneau, manager of Skills Development at the Ontario Energy Centre of Excellence (OCE Inc.) will be the guest speaker. UOIT students - representing each of the university's faculties - will present their research projects to their peers, professors and visitors from the community. Hosted by UOIT's Office of Research Services, presentation topics include new robotic control systems, the development of micro-heat devices, energy conservation and heat-recovery systems, carbon dioxide sequestration, effects of cancer cell exposure to environmental pollutants, combating child pornography, family care research, and much more.
