From a carnival, to outdoor movies, to a fundraising car wash, UOIT and Durham College are set to welcome new students to campus

OSHAWA, Ont. - The 2006-2007 academic year is about to begin and UOIT and Durham College are welcoming first-year students with the kick off of this year's orientation activities.

Highlights include Durham College's Family Orientation which introduces the world of post-secondary education to incoming students and their families, and Head Start Days which provide students with the opportunity to explore the Whitby campus and meet new classmates.

  • Durham College Family Orientation (Oshawa campus) - August 30 and 31
  • Durham College Head Start Days (Whitby campus) - August 31 and September 1

Along with learning about the practical side of post-secondary education, students are invited to attend a variety of social activities which help ease the transition to college and university and give them a glimpse of student life on campus including:

  • Campus Extravaganza featuring live music, a clubs fair, a barbecue, and a carnival - September 5
  • Playfair - World's Largest Icebreaker - September 5
  • Movie-on-the-Lawn - September 5, 6, 7, and 8
  • DC-UOIT Women's Hockey Club versus Durham Regional Police Women's Hockey Team - September 6
  • Welcome 2006 Dinner - September 6
  • Shinerama Fundraising Car Wash - September 9
