Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Dr. Ronald Bordessa to be installed as president of UOIT

Former dean of York University's Atkinson College and vice-president of academic and provost at Royal Roads University to lead province's only laptop-based university into the future
OSHAWA, Ont. - Community and business partners, academic colleagues and dignitaries will join students, faculty and staff at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) next Friday as Dr. Ronald Bordessa is officially installed as the university's second president and vice-chancellor.

Dr. Bordessa brings a wealth of postsecondary administrative knowledge and teaching experience to UOIT based on a 35-year commitment to academic excellence, innovation and research in areas such as social life in urban areas, literary studies, environmental issues and the politics of land development.

Originally from Wales, United Kingdom, Dr. Bordessa spent more than 30 years at York University where he held positions including associate dean and dean of Atkinson College, renamed Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies. Most recently he was vice-president, academic and provost at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, where he oversaw the introduction and development of many new programs and initiatives.

With a focus on the innovative academic experience UOIT provides to students, and the role UOIT can play in the development of economy and society in our region, province and country, the formal installation ceremony will mark the next phase of growth in the university's already impressive track record.
