November 29, 2006
Event designed to build interest and awareness of the Engineering field
OSHAWA, Ont. - It will be part battle of the machines and part battle of the emerging engineering minds on Sunday, December 3 as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) hosts its first annual Engineering Robotics Competition. The event will see seven teams from six high schools from across the eastern GTA square off in a fun and spirited battle featuring Sumobots, robots that utilize stealth technology to evade and detect opponents during one-on-one battles designed to determine the greatest Sumobot of all.
Fourth-year Manufacturing Engineering students have been mentoring and working with the high school teams as they built their Sumobots over the last several weeks.
Along with a round-robin tournament champion, a prize will be awarded to the team with the best engineered robot, a decision based on design, performance and a submitted technical report.
The UOIT Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is hosting the competition to promote the vast opportunities available in Engineering studies and to help UOIT establish robust partnerships with local education organizations.
