Historic win for UOIT women's hockey team
January 8, 2007
It was a historic win on January 5 for the UOIT Ridgebacks women's hockey club.
The team, which is playing exhibition games and tournaments this season, downed the York Lions 3-2 at the Campus Ice Centre for UOIT's first win over a university squad. UOIT is using these exhibition games as preparation for its entry into Ontario University Athletics (OUA) competition this fall.
Health Sciences student Melissa Bell scored all three goals for the Ridgebacks, including the winner with three minutes to go. The women next suit up January 20 against Carleton, looking to knock off another university squad. Game time is 8:45 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre.
