UOIT professor connects world-renowned experts at global conference for global solutions

UOIT Professor Dr. Ibrahim Dincer believes there is a solution to the worldwide issue of global warming and as chair of this summer's Global Conference on Global Warming 2008, he is bringing together leading experts to work towards finding that solution.

Dr. Dincer, a professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and conference chair, aims to bring all key disciplines together at the conference, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from July 6 to 10, to exchange the latest technical information, the dissemination of high-quality research results, presentations on new developments and discussions on future directions in the area of global warming and climate change.

"Historically, research in this area has been the focus of scientists only," said Dr. Dincer. "I believe that engineers hold a very important role in implementing the solution to this international crisis. Scientists and researchers are excellent at measuring and monitoring various activities and by partnering with engineers, we can begin connecting the concepts and theory with practical implementations."

Over 300 presentations will be made at the conference by individuals with a broad range of backgrounds in addition to science and engineering, including management, oceanography, information technology, ecology, education and environmental science. Several keynote presentations will be presented by international-renowned scientists, researchers and engineers such as Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and former industrial engineer. More than 350 attendees from all over the world are expected.

"I am thrilled to have been chosen by my peers to chair this conference," said Dr. Dincer. "This is a remarkable opportunity to highlight the innovative research taking place every day at UOIT and I am extremely proud to represent the university."

Dr. Dincer is known globally as a green energy expert and his selection as chair of the conference is reflective of the world-class faculty at UOIT. Chair of the 2006 International Green Energy Conference held at UOIT and a leading researcher in sustainable energy systems, including hydrogen and fuel cells, he challenges students to find new ways to conserve energy and develop alternative energy solutions.

The conference is also a homecoming of sorts for Dr. Dincer, who is a native of Turkey. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey; his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey; and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Selcuk University in Konya, Turkey.
