UOIT set for arrival of first-year students

Orientation Week 2008 to ring in new academic year

OSHAWA, Ont. - With hundreds of students set to begin post-secondary studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), the university is ready to welcome them to campus with Orientation 2008. The week-long series of events, running from September 2 to 6, is designed to acquaint first-year students with UOIT's leading-edge learning environment, while also providing them with the opportunity to meet new friends and learn about program expectations, student services and clubs. Exciting activities and events planned include:

  • Orientation opening ceremonies, Tuesday, September 2 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.;
  • Campus Extravaganza, featuring a barbecue, music, carnival games and a student services and clubs fair, September 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.;
  • Dodgeball games, September 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.;
  • Ultimate Frisbee games, September 2 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.;
  • Offshore Pirates' Party, September 2 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.;
  • Double feature Movie-on-the-Lawn, September 2 at dusk;
  • Wild Goose Chase, Wednesday, September 3 at 9:30 a.m.;
  • Glow-in-the-dark Capture the Shark, September 3 at 5 p.m.;
  • Shinerama Shine Day including a fundraising car wash and shoeshine for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Saturday, September 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.;
  • Aloha Blast, September 6 at 4 p.m.;
  • and
  • Blue and White Hockey game, September 6 at midnight.
