UOIT to hold official installation ceremony for new chancellor

Ceremony will recognize the Honourable Perrin Beatty

OSHAWA, ON. - Members of the media are invited to join officials from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) next week for the official installation of the university's new chancellor, the Honourable Perrin Beatty.

Beatty, a distinguished former federal cabinet minister and current president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada's largest business association, will be joined by university representatives from across Canada, as well as community and business partners, dignitaries and other special guests.

Beatty held numerous ministerial roles within the federal government from 1979 to 1993 and his extensive business experience includes previously serving as president and CEO of both the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. He has also taught a course in Communications Technologies and Public Policy at the University of Western Ontario as an honorary visiting professor.

While Beatty is officially being installed at next week's ceremony, he has been serving in the position since August.

UOIT's national reputation for being an academically challenging university that is graduating the country's next-generation professionals is increasingly attracting leaders from around the world, bringing extensive experience to campus.
