Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT's largest graduating class set to cross the stage on June 4

Dr. Gary Polonsky and Ms. Lyn McLeod to receive honorary doctorate degrees

OSHAWA, ON. - Faculty and staff from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) will be joined by the families and friends of the class of 2010 on Friday, June 4 when the university confers Bachelor's and Master's degrees upon more than 1,200 graduates at its annual convocation ceremonies. This year's honorary doctorate recipients -Ms. Lyn McLeod, UOIT's founding chancellor and Dr. Gary Polonsky, UOIT's founding president - both of whom have been instrumental in the establishment and growth of the university will address the graduating class during the morning and afternoon ceremonies respectively.

When:
Friday, June 4

10 a.m. - The following degrees will be conferred:

  • Master of Applied Science;
  • Master of Engineering;
  • Bachelor of Arts;
  • Bachelor of Engineering;
  • Bachelor of Engineering and Management;
  • Bachelor of Health Science;
  • Bachelor of Science; and
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Ms. Lyn McLeod will receive her honorary Doctor of Laws degree and address graduates during the morning ceremony.

John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities will attend the ceremony and bring greetings on behalf of the Province of Ontario.

2:30 p.m. - The following degrees will be conferred:

  • Master of Information Technology Security;
  • Master of Science;
  • Bachelor of Commerce;
  • Bachelor of Education;
  • Bachelor of Information Technology;
  • Bachelor of Science; and
  • Bachelor of Science and Management.

Dr. Gary Polonsky will receive his honorary Doctor of Laws degree and address graduates during the afternoon ceremony.
