UOIT students - tell us how we're doing! NSSE returns January 31

UOIT is encouraging first- and fourth-year students to take part in a national survey to ensure they have the opportunity to provide valuable insight that will enable the university to improve the student experience both inside and outside the classroom. The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) launches on Monday, January 31.

Each year, NSSE provides important information about the quality of undergraduate learning by asking eligible students questions about how they spend their time, what they feel they've gained from their classes, their assessment of the quality of interactions with faculty and students and other important activities. In 2008, UOIT had an overwhelming 49 per cent student participation, one of the highest response rates amongst Ontario universities, and this year we want to have even more students participate.

All 19 publicly-assisted universities participate in the NSSE survey as part of their commitment to the Ontario government to improve accountability and focus on the quality of the student learning experience. UOIT uses the survey results to identify aspects of the student experience that can be improved through changes in policies and practices.

UOIT will invite more than 4,000 students to take part in NSSE 2011. An invitation will be sent to students via their MyCampus accounts on January 31. The survey contains approximately 80 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Students who complete the survey on or before Friday, February 4 will be entered in an early bird draw for an iPod Touch or a $100 Campus Bookstore gift certificate. Once the survey closes, two more iPod Touch prizes and three $50 The Keg gift cards will be given away.

More details about the survey can be found on UOIT's NSSE website.
