Nominations now being accepted for UOIT Board of Governors vacancies

Since it welcomed its first class of 947 students in September 2003, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has grown to more than 7,400 students, recruited exceptional educators from around the world, and attracted millions of dollars in research investments.

UOIT is seeking nominations for four Board of Governors vacancies. The term of office for these vacancies will be September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2014 with eligibility for consideration for a second three-year term. Governors are expected to attend evening or day time meetings and to serve on one standing committee of the board. From time to time, members may also be required to be involved in additional committees or special projects. There is no honorarium for service.

UOIT has identified the following critical skill-sets for its board:

  • Advocacy/fundraising;
  • Banking, business or investment; financial literacy; accounting/auditing;
  • Commercialization of research and innovation;
  • Communications and media relations;
  • Diversity inclusive of the community
  • Experience in effective governance of other organizations and skills relevant to the effective functioning of various board committees;
  • Legal/labour relations; and
  • Strong leadership skills, experience/understanding of government relations.

The Governance/Nominating Committee of the UOIT Board of Governors will review all applications against the identified skill-sets and contact shortlisted candidates for an interview.

Please note: candidates may also be required to complete application forms applicable to the Public Appointments Secretariat, Government of Ontario. If such application is required, candidates will be notified during the interview process and the appropriate forms will be provided.
