The country's first and oldest engineering society, the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), is awarding one of its highest honours to Dr. Ibrahim Dincer, a professor with Ontario Tech University Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS).

Dr. Dincer will be inducted as a Fellow of the EIC at the Institute's annual awards banquet in Ottawa on Saturday, March 5, an event that helps mark National Engineering Week in Canada. He is one of 20 engineers being recognized for exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada. The Ontario Tech University professor of Mechanical Engineering has made wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary research contributions in the areas of sustainable energy technologies which include hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, renewable energy systems, alternative fuels and electric vehicles, and integrated and hybrid energy systems for multi-generation options.

"This is a great honour to be recognized for these efforts to advance engineering through research and technical activities both locally and worldwide," said Dr. Dincer. "My ultimate goals in advancing these technologies here at Ontario Tech University are better efficiency, improved cost-effectiveness, enhanced energy security and the sustainability of resources and the environment. Those who nominated and selected me have my deepest appreciation."

Dr. Dincer's distinguished list of achievements includes the Premier's Research Excellence Award and being named a Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation in 2005. He has also been widely recognized by his peers at Ontario Tech University, having won both the FEAS Research Excellence Award (2006) and Teaching Excellence Award (2009).

"An award such as this brings great distinction to everything we do here at Ontario Tech University," said Dr. George Bereznai, dean, FEAS. "We are extremely proud of Ibrahim's dedication to both research and teaching, and for being acknowledged for excellence in engineering, his services to the profession and to society."

Founded in 1887, the EIC is a federation of 12 member engineering societies in Canada, which encompass all fields of engineering.
