Hail CESR and all those who try it

New centre will provide high-quality evaluation and survey research to the university and broader community

Oshawa, ON - The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) launched the new Centre for Evaluation and Survey Research (CESR) today during the centre's official opening. Guests learned about the wide range of services CESR offers and how effective surveys can be created and carried out to meet the individual needs of their organization.

"We look forward to future collaborations with researchers, other universities, and our regional, provincial, and national community members and agencies," said Dr. Hannah Scott, associate professor, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, and director, CESR. "CESR has the potential to help agencies improve and strengthen their services, which will be beneficial to our region and beyond."

Located at UOIT's new 61 Charles Street building, CESR is an interdisciplinary, academic, hybrid centre that primarily serves as a resource for systematic research and analysis functions both inside and outside the university. A board of directors governs CESR, which includes UOIT faculty members drawn from a range of disciplines as well as a community organization representative.

The centre offers high-quality quantitative and qualitative survey research design and administration; evaluation and collaborative research models; and consultation and training to students and community members. Services include:

  • Administration of paper and electronic surveys;
  • Primary data collection and analysis;
  • Project management;
  • Questionnaire design and testing;
  • Secondary data analysis;
  • Small group (non-random) focus group selection and facilitation; and
  • Total survey design.
