June 16, 2011
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology's (UOIT) Faculty of Science is announcing a research grant awarded by Xerox Corporation to Dr. Faisal Qureshi, assistant professor, Computer Science.
Xerox Corporation is providing $20,000 per year for up to three years to support Dr. Qureshi's work on ad hoc networks of smart cameras. Dr. Qureshi, whose research interests include computer vision and computer graphics, will work closely with Dr. Raj Minhas, program manager, Xerox Corporation, to develop the research program.
"I am very excited to receive this grant because it creates opportunities for myself and my students to work with Xerox towards designing the next generation smart camera networks," said Dr. Qureshi. "I strongly believe that this grant will strengthen our relationship with Xerox and will lead to a successful research partnership."
"University Affairs Committee grants supported by Xerox Foundation are aimed to facilitate exciting new research in areas relevant to Xerox, and to foster relationships with leading-edge research universities," said Dr. Minhas. "Professor Qureshi's novel work on smart camera networks clearly falls in that category and I look forward to collaborating with him and his students."
"This is a prestigious award for our faculty and university, especially so because it is rare for grants like these to go to a Canadian," said Dr. William Smith, dean of Science, UOIT.
