Kelly Kay, Sessional Instructor, Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), is one of eight recipients of the prestigious Technology Evaluation in the Elderly Network (TVN) Fellowship Award. These awards are part of TVN’s mandate to develop multidisciplinary and multi-sector approaches to caring for seriously ill elderly patients, their families and caregivers.

As one of the award recipients, Kay will work on her own self-directed research initiative, which will explore the use and limits of technology to enable inter-professional comprehensive geriatric assessment and intervention that will bring specialized geriatric services closer to home. She will also complete six multidisciplinary training program modules including mentoring, placements and ongoing interaction and engagement with supervisors, mentors, patients and families, colleagues, industry and government. The training program includes a yearly stipend of $50,000 to support research activities. Dr. Brenda Gamble will serve as Kay’s Supervisor throughout the duration of the fellowship.

“We would like to congratulate both Kelly and Brenda on their success,” said Dr. Ellen Vogel, Dean, FHS. “This timely and important research promises to strengthen the evidence base on effective strategies to support healthy aging at the community level, while improving the quality of life for frail seniors in Durham Region and their families.”
