UOIT hosts 2014 Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Competition
April 8, 2014
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) helped bridge the gap between tasty treats and engineering recently, when the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science played host to the ninth-annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Building contest.
The students' task was to build a bridge spanning 600 millimetres, using no more than 200 unbroken popsicle sticks. Top honours went to Max Briggs from Julie Payette Public School in Whitby, Ontario for the junior category, and Sonia Rezaie from Jack Miner Public School in Whitby, Ontario for the senior category.
The event was part of National Engineering month and was held in collaboration with the Lake Ontario chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), and the Durham Region chapter of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
