Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

UOIT’s Management Development Centre’s newest programs meeting marketplace needs

MDC unveils offerings in digital marketing, social media and professional sales

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) Management Development Centre (MDC) delivers results-oriented workshops and certificate programs to meet the demands of the changing 21st-century workplace. Through the university’s Faculty of Business and Information Technology, the MDC prepares area professionals to advance their careers with custom programs that refresh their management, communication and leadership skills.

This fall, the MDC is adding two new management certificate programs in:

  • Digital Marketing and Social Media
  • Professional Sales

All MDC programs are offered at the university’s north Oshawa location, conveniently located on Simcoe Street just south of the new Highway 407 East extension.

Digital Marketing and Social Media Management Certificate Program (three days)

Wednesdays: October 26, November 2 and 9

Our redesigned program will transform your social media marketing plan and help your organization implement a successful return on investment. The program is tailored for each participant with ongoing feedback, professional guidance and projects based on your organization’s online presence and marketing initiatives. Network with other businesses and share solutions that are actionable, interactive and sustainable.

Our ‘social media dream team’ (Andrea Kennedy, Spread Your Word Marketing Group; and Leslie Hughes, PUNCH Media) develops a practical strategy: learn, apply, measure and report. You will be confident you are communicating the right message, using the right social media channels and eliminating the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Professional Sales Management Certificate Program (five days)

Thursdays: November 3 and 17, December 1
Tuesdays: January 17 and 31, 2017

Become an advocate for your vision and leverage your business by joining others who want to strategically build sales strategies and customer service techniques. Develop leadership skills that will get you noticed and remembered in your business community and beyond.

Communication experts, Diana Kawarsky (President) and Suzanne Mladenovich (Consultant) from the Soft Skills Group will provide the skills, knowledge and attitude required for success in the sales and/or customer service profession. You will become exceptional at telling your story to internal and external stakeholders. You will be able to identify strategies to create and sustain an environment of customer service and sales in your organization.
