Ontario Tech retains designation as one of Canada’s Research Universities of the Year

Ontario Tech University’s impressive reputational trajectory for top-notch research continues with a fresh distinction as one of Canada’s Research Universities of the Year for 2022.
The accolade, first achieved in 2021, comes from Research Infosource (RI), Canada’s premier research ranking organization and leading provider of research intelligence for business and higher education.
Currently in its 20th academic year and still one of the country’s youngest research-intensive institutions, Ontario Tech has climbed to the top of the rankings for its research portfolio among its peers, and solidified its growth in industry-sponsored research income.
The RI report released January 18 specifically reflects data for the 2020-2021 fiscal year (FY). Among the nation’s 21 smaller research universities, Ontario Tech ranks No. 2 in Canada (up one place from last year), and retains its No. 1 rank in Ontario.
The new RI report contains a number of further key milestones about research at Ontario Tech:
- No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research income: $5.465 million (FY 2021).
- No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research income as a percentage of total research income: 25.8 per cent (FY 2021).
Also, in the five-year period from FY 2017 to FY 2021:
- No. 1 in Canada among smaller universities for research income from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC): $20.2 million.
- No. 1 in Canada among smaller universities for NSERC research income as a percentage of total research income: 25.8 per cent.
