Ontario Tech marks Black History Month

Black History Month graphic

February marks Black History Month: a time to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of Black community members in Canada, and around the world.

Black History Month also highlights initiatives aimed at eradicating systemic anti-Black racism and creates opportunities to discuss advocacy and strategies for meaningful change.

This year, Ontario Tech will celebrate Black History Month by highlighting Black Canadian culture, promoting an awareness of history, demonstrating allyship and providing an open space for conversations.

Black Student Showcase

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, in collaboration with the Advancement office, invites all campus community members to the launch of the Black Youth Visionary Program on Tuesday, February 25

The program launch is in conjunction with the university’s first-annual Black Student Showcase, which will bring the university community together to celebrate and recognize Black History Month. The Black Youth Visionary Program is supported by a generous gift from Scotiabank.

The showcase will feature:

  • A marketplace highlighting Black-identifying student businesses, clubs and societies.
  • A keynote speaker and live performances.
  • The announcement of the Black Youth Visionary Program in partnership with Ontario Tech and Scotiabank.
  • Cultural refreshments available for all attendees.
