Students interested in pursuing a legal career now have a way of achieving their goal sooner, thanks to a new accelerated program at Ontario Tech University.

Offered in partnership with Teesside University in the U.K., the unique Legal Studies (BA) and Law (U.K. LLB) - Accelerated Law pathway combines legal training in Canada and the U.K. Unlike standard pathway programs that take six to seven years to complete and require separate applications for an undergraduate degree and law school, this direct-entry option offers the fastest route to a law degree in Canada, enabling students to earn two degrees in five years of full-time study: a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Legal Studies from Ontario Tech, and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Teesside (equivalent to a Juris Doctor degree in Canada).

Program overview

This pathway offers a broad perspective by teaching law through Canadian and U.K. lenses. In years 1 to 3 spent at Ontario Tech, students gain a solid foundation in Canadian legal studies before transitioning to the LLB program in the U.K. for years 4 and 5. Along the way, they develop academic, ethical and professional competencies, and gain real-world experience through practicums, co-ops and internships. While at Teesside, students work with lawyers, charities and community organizations to provide free legal advice, support and guidance to the public through the Teesside Law Clinic

After completing all five years, students may take the National Committee on Accreditation exam required to practice law in Canada.
