Emma Bradbury and Kailee Demoe, third-year Nursing students at UOIT, demonstrated their commitment to helping others and their community when they stopped a man who had just stolen a poppy donation box from a nearby pharmacy on November 3.

The two students had finished their mid-term exam at UOIT’s Regent Theatre in downtown Oshawa and walking along King Street when they heard someone shouting “Stop him” The two students stepped in front of the man’s bicycle causing him to fall. A foot chase ensued and the students were able to retrieve the donation box once the man had discarded it.

“On behalf of UOIT, I would like express how proud we are of Emma and Kailee,” said Dr. Ellen Vogel, dean, Faculty of Health Sciences. “Their actions demonstrate that they are not just promising health care professionals, but also civic-minded and fearless citizens.”
