More high school students choose UOIT first

OSHAWA, ON. - More high school students than ever before are choosing the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) as their first choice to pursue their university education. According to the latest numbers from the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) UOIT received 1,367 first-choice applications from Ontario secondary school students, an increase of 8.8 per cent (Ontario average: 2 per cent), representing the highest year over year increase among Ontario universities. The number of second-choice applications to UOIT rose by 10.8 per cent (Ontario average: 1.8 per cent) with third-choice applications up by 4.8 (Ontario average: 1.9).

“We are very excited that increasingly more students are choosing UOIT as their first choice to apply to university, “said Victoria Choy, registrar. “These numbers demonstrate UOIT’s growing reputation for student success and relevant, hands-on experience delivered in a technology-enriched learning environment. Our graduates are prepared to hit the ground running and this is resonating with our applicants, their parents and future employers.”

The OUAC numbers released on January 12 also indicate that UOIT received 7,759 applications from Ontario high school students for the 2012/2013 academic year. This represents a 9.4 per cent year-over-year increase. The Ontario average is 2.4 per cent.
