Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Nominations being accepted for student representatives UOIT’s Board of Governors

Nominations are now being accepted for student representatives on the UOIT Board of Governors. There are two positions available:

  • Undergraduate Student Governor (one position); and
  • Graduate Student Governor.

The Board of Governors is the senior governing body of the university and is comprised of volunteers each of whom gives freely of time and expertise to ensure that the best interests of UOIT are served and that UOIT’s leading-edge learning environment is maintained. Participating as a student member of the Board of Governors provides you with a unique opportunity to contribute to governance of the university, helping to influence policy and issues that affect the quality of student experience and education at UOIT. The Board normally meets five times a year and maintains an active schedule of committee meetings which may be scheduled during the day or evening. Candidates must be available to attend all the meetings of the Board and of the Board Committee to which they are assigned.

Nomination forms and further details regarding eligibility and term of office can be found on the UOIT Board of Governors website. Completed nomination forms should be delivered to the Office of the Provost, Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre (ERC), Room 3030, by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012.
