Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Campus traffic alert – realignment and widening of Conlin Road West

${alt}

From April 2014 to August 2015, the City of Oshawa will be realigning and widening Conlin Road West, between Founders Drive and a point 250 metres west of Stevenson Road North.

Throughout the scheduled 16-month construction period, traffic flow will be affected to and from the west side of the joint UOIT-Durham College campus location in north Oshawa. The entire roadway will be completely closed to traffic for several months.

The work will include the removal of existing bridges, construction of a new bridge and culvert, realignment of Oshawa Creek, and construction of new median features with installation of new light standards and on-road cycling facilities.

Construction will be carried out in phases. Work schedule timelines are subject to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Schedule and impacts:

  • Tuesday, April 22 to July: Tree-clearing activities and preparation of roadway for widening/realignment. Traffic access continues.
  • July to November 2014*: Full closure to traffic between Founders Drive and Stevenson Road.
  • December 2014 to April 2015: Temporary two-lane road access within the construction zone will be provided.
  • May to August 2015*: Full closure to traffic between Founders Drive and Stevenson Road.

Anticipated completion: Late Summer 2015.

*Suggested alternative during full-closure periods:

  • East-west traffic flow should use Simcoe Street to access campus by following either Taunton Road or Winchester Road.

All motorists should expect heavier traffic flow along Simcoe Street and allow for extra travel time during the construction period. Please exercise caution around the construction site.

The City of Oshawa realizes aspects of this construction work may be disruptive; however, it advises it will make every effort to complete the project as quickly and efficiently as possible.
