UOIT Professor recognized with senior fellowship

Dr. Kamiel Gabriel, Professor in the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) was unanimously elected as a Senior Fellow in the Institute of Science, Society and Policy (ISSP) in Ottawa last month.
"I'd like to congratulate Dr. Gabriel on his appointment to Senior Fellow with the ISSP," said Dr. Tarlochan Sidhu, Dean, FEAS. "His accomplishment reflects greatly on the overall achievements of the entire faculty, and his peers at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology take immense pride in sharing his success."
Dr. Gabriel brings with him a wealth of experience to the ISSP. He is the founding Associate Provost of Research and Graduate programs at UOIT. He also co-founded the Durham Strategic Energy Alliance, and served as its President and Chair of the Board from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, he was seconded to the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation as Assistant Deputy Minister of Research and the ministry’s first Science Advisor. Recently the government of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) invited him to help create a research funding agency to support research efforts in the federal and private higher-education institutions in the UAE.
