Four Accounting students from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) earned second spot at the 2013 Brock University Accounting Conference (BUAC).

UOIT’s Accounting Association’s (UOAA) Elite Case Competition Team was comprised of Faculty of Business and Information Technology students AC Gray, Hassan Javed, Jonathan Mayers and Kadir Motiwala. The team competed against some of the brightest accounting students representing 12 other top universities from across Canada including Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario; Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec; University of Toronto in Ontario; and University of Waterloo in Ontario.

“Our success at BUAC speaks volumes to the quality of teaching at UOIT,” said Mayers. “I owe a lot of thanks to my Accounting professors. They’ve done an outstanding job preparing me to pursue my passion as a professional accountant. I have had the opportunity to reflect on my overall experience at UOIT and I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every class, professor, and experience throughout my university career.”

The competition, held at Brock University on November 30, required the teams to apply their accounting knowledge and skills learned in school and present their recommendations to a panel of industry professionals. After the presentations the students needed to think quickly on their feet and respond to questions posted by the judges.
