Great research matters – but how you tell a story is just as important.

The third-annual Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Storytellers contest is now in full swing. The contest challenges post-secondary students to show Canadians how social sciences and humanities research is improving their lives, world and future.

Students have until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 30 to send in their best three-minute or 300-word pitch promoting a great SSHRC-funded project happening at their school. The student can pitch their own research project or a professor’s, with permission.

The stories should be creative, compelling and clear. Use video, audio, text or infographics to answer questions such as:

  • Where is the research taking us?
  • What is the story?
  • How does it impact Canadians?

Contest details:

  • Phase 1: SSHRC will select 25 finalists to receive a $3,000 cash prize.
  • Phase 2: Finalists will attend the 2015 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa, where they will receive specialized training in research communications. They will then deliver a live presentation at the Storytellers Showcase, where judges will select the final five winners. The top five finalists will present at the prestigious 2015 SSHRC Impact Awards ceremony.

Submission deadline: Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m.
