Chartered Professional Accountants understand both financial matters and the importance of education. They also understand that, for some people, the cost of an education may limit their pursuit of an accounting career.

Thanks to a donation by the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario, Accounting students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology now have access to scholarships and bursaries to aid their accounting studies.

“CPA Ontario contributions enable the University of Ontario Institute of Technology to provide outstanding career opportunities for our students – both inside and outside the classroom,” said Susan McGovern, Vice-President, External Relations and Advancement. “The association’s generosity helps us continue to grow our campus, and to graduate tomorrow’s leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs.”

On November 17, 2014, the university recognized CPA Ontario’s generous gift of just over $100,000. This gift supports students enrolled in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology and will provide:

  • Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario Bursary - $4,000 per year plus $1,000 to be used toward future education costs directly related to the student’s pursuit of the CPA designation in Ontario.
  • Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario Scholarship - $2,000 per year plus $1,000 to be used toward future education costs directly related to the student’s pursuit of the CPA designation in Ontario.
  • Additional study space in the Business and IT Building through a $50,000 sponsorship.

In addition, to encourage and support the professional development of faculty and staff, CPA Ontario will provide a Professional Development Gift-in-Kind credit of $2,000 annually for training and education.

“The University of Ontario Institute of Technology thanks CPA Ontario for its commitment to our students and to post-secondary education,” said Dr. Pamela Ritchie, Dean, Faculty of Business and Information Technology. “This gift will help our Accounting and IT students pursue their academic goals and achieve their full potential. We look forward to a long-lasting and successful partnership with CPA Ontario.”
