Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Demonstrating some key tools of the trade, six University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) students put on an impressive performance at the 2015 Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) in Toronto, Ontario.

The prestigious RITC brings together 50 teams from 46 universities around the world. The two-day event consists of six different financial models and cases to trade. Success requires applied logic and quick decision making. Participants get to network and demonstrate trading skills while also gaining new tools to improve their abilities.

UOIT team members from the Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT):

  • Chris Kerschbaumer (fourth-year Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Finance major, Accounting minor)
  • Rachel Wollison (fourth-year BCom, Finance major)

“The continued excellent performance of University of Ontario Institute of Technology students in this competition is testimony to the strong training we provide to use in financial databases,” said Dr. Chinmay Jain, Assistant Professor, FBIT. “These competitions not only give FBIT students exposure to compete with other business schools, they also help build our brand name as a top-business school. Our team fared a bit better than schools such as Queen’s University, Western University, McMaster University and Ryerson University. This boosts our students’ confidence and proves our rigorous training will help them excel and lead in the financial industry after they graduate.”
