Provincial budget initiatives position students for success
February 25, 2016
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) welcomes the changes made to student support in Ontario and is encouraged by the creation of the Ontario Student Grant (OSG). The 2016 Ontario Budget introduces a new streamlined structure for financial assistance to improve access to all students in Ontario including students in Durham Region and Northumberland County.
These changes will result in easier access to aid, more grants for the students who need it most, and more assistance in both grants and loans to students from middle-income families.
"At the University of Ontario Institute of Technology many of our students are OSAP applicants. Many of them experience additional financial burdens, commuting, working while at school and supporting dependants. The government’s proposed new structure for financial assistance will break down some real barriers for our current and future students.”
-Tim McTiernan, PhD, President and Vice-Chancellor
Key facts:
- Annually the university disburses more than $7 million through scholarships, bursaries and wages to student employees, which help offset tuition.
- The university is home to more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in more than 75 programs.
