2016 UOIT Engineering Robotics Competition coming November 26
This year’s competition coincides with Drone Fair Ontario event
November 16, 2016
Hundreds of future engineering students from high schools and middle schools across South Central Ontario will put their robot creations to the test on Saturday, November 26 during the Engineering Robotics Competition at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).
Organized for the 11th consecutive year by UOIT’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), the UOIT Robotics Competition involves dozens of teams of aspiring young scientists and engineers who combine their knowledge to program robots, which will challenge each other in 'SumoBot' competitions. Fifty teams will gather for the showdown in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre gymnasium.
Participants have been building their autonomous robots using LEGO Mindstorm NXT and EV3 system kits during a series of fall weekend workshops and tutorials hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
The public and the media are welcome to attend the showdown and cheer on the students as they demonstrate their developing engineering skills.
Quote
“The robots will compete eight at a time on an octagonal SumoBot table, with points being awarded for robots surviving longest on the table. Schools also get points for taking out other teams’ SumoBots, and for a Design Report they have to submit a week before the competition.”
- Dr. Mikael Eklund, PhD, Chief Organizer, UOIT Engineering Robotics Competition, and Associate Professor, Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering.
