Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Commencement Drive closure – August 11

Emergency notification

Commencement Drive, located at the lights off Simcoe Street North, will be closed to traffic from 7:30 a.m. until approximately the end of the business day on Friday, August 11. The closure will allow contractors to install a new speed bump in the inbound lanes and modify the existing speed bump in the outbound lanes.

Accessing campus by car:

Commencement Lot will remain open for parking and Founders Drive will be open to traffic.

Faculty, staff, students and visitors can enter the campus at Founders Gate (north of Commencement Drive, off Simcoe Street North) or at Founders Drive (off Conlin Road).

Bus services to campus:

  • GO Transit:
    • Buses will arrive to, and depart from, campus through the Founders Drive entrance, but will continue to make regular stops through to the bus loop.
  • Durham Region Transit:
    • For bus routes 310, 401/B/C, 416, 417, 910, 915 and 950, northbound and southbound temporary accessible stops, as well as a crosswalk, will be placed at Commencement Drive and Simcoe Street.
    • Specialized Services will continue to pick up and drop off passengers at the bus loop, and will enter campus via Founders Gate and, if necessary, Founders Drive.
