Hydro One powers female university students pursuing careers in engineering

Female Engineering students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology will continue to benefit from a variety of networking opportunities and outreach programs, thanks to Hydro One’s renewed commitment to the Women in Engineering University Partnership program.

On International Women’s Day (March 8), Hydro One announced the renewal of its commitment to women in engineering and engineering outreach initiatives with an additional $1.6 million investment shared by four universities. Now in its fifth year, the program aims to increase enrolment and career opportunities for young girls and women pursuing a career in the engineering field. To date, the Women in Engineering University Partnership has supported more than 18,000 students across Ontario. In addition to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Ryerson University, University of Waterloo and Western University are also part of this partnership.

Two University of Ontario Institute of Technology students are also among this year’s 10 Hydro One Women in Engineering Scholarships recipients:

• Hailey Fielder, Electrical Engineering, class of 2020
• Toby Ma, Electrical Engineering, class of 2020

The scholarships provide women with opportunities to develop satisfying and successful professional careers in the areas of engineering and other related fields. The scholarship includes a financial award, as well as an opportunity to further develop skills while working for Hydro One in a paid internship.
