Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Ontario Tech University’s impressive reputational trajectory for top-notch research continues with a fresh distinction as one of Canada’s Research Universities of the Year for 2022.

The accolade, first achieved in 2021, comes from Research Infosource (RI), Canada’s premier research ranking organization and leading provider of research intelligence for business and higher education.

Currently in its 20th academic year and still one of the country’s youngest research-intensive institutions, Ontario Tech has climbed to the top of the rankings for its research portfolio among its peers, and solidified its growth in industry-sponsored research income.

The RI report released January 18 specifically reflects data for the 2020-2021 fiscal year (FY). Among the nation’s 21 smaller research universities, Ontario Tech ranks No. 2 in Canada (up one place from last year), and retains its No. 1 rank in Ontario.

The new RI report contains a number of further key milestones about research at Ontario Tech:

  • No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research income: $5.465 million (FY 2021).
  • No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research income as a percentage of total research income: 25.8 per cent (FY 2021).

Also, in the five-year period from FY 2017 to FY 2021:

  • No. 1 in Canada among smaller universities for research income from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC): $20.2 million.
  • No. 1 in Canada among smaller universities for NSERC research income as a percentage of total research income: 25.8 per cent.

Ontario Tech has been busy assembling a powerful portfolio of leading collaborative research across all of its faculties, and forging hundreds of partnerships with industry and community organizations.
