Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Enrolment up 13 per cent at UOIT

OSHAWA, ON. - Enrolment at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has reached another highpoint with Day 10 enrolment numbers topping 8,423 undergraduate and graduate students attending the university. 

“These figures are a testament to UOIT’s growing reputation both domestically and internationally for providing students with quality learning experiences and the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the workforce,” said Victoria Choy, registrar. “We are pleased to have met our enrolment targets and look forward to another outstanding academic year.”

As of September 21, the last day for students to add fall courses that also provides a comprehensive picture of the university's enrolment, UOIT recorded a 13.7 per cent increase in overall undergraduate enrolment from 7,018 to 7,977 with 2,636 being new students. In addition, the number of graduate students has grown to 446, representing a five per cent increase overall.

UOIT has steadily increased the number of programs offered to 43 undergraduate and more than 20 graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. UOIT also delivers 13 bridging programs, which allow eligible students to apply their Ontario college diploma towards a university degree.
