Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Please be advised that bus drivers at GO Transit will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on Monday, October 24 if negotiations between GO Transit and the union representing its bus drivers fail to produce a new collective agreement. A GO Transit bus strike would cancel service on the following bus routes to and from our campus locations:

  • Route 51 - Pickering/York University Express;
  • Route 51 - Pickering/York University;
  • Route 52 - Oshawa/York University via Highway 7;
  • Route 81 - Port Perry/Beaverton;
  • Route 88 - Peterborough/Oshawa;
  • Route 90 - Newcastle/Oshawa;
  • Route 91 - Newcastle/Bowmanville/Oshawa;
  • Route 93 - Scarborough Town Centre/Express/UOIT/DC;
  • Route 94 - Oshawa/Highway 2;
  • Route 95 - Oshawa/Highway 2 Express; and
  • Route 96 - Oshawa/Highway 401.

To help you plan for safe travel to and from campus during a possible GO Transit bus strike, please visit the Durham Region Transit (DRT) website for information on DRT bus routes that may be available as an alternative means of transportation and/or visit the Smart Commute Durham website and register to carpool with someone at UOIT or Durham College. There is no cost to register for Smart Commute and the website will match your travel needs with others on campus. Please note: to ensure your safety and the safety of others, please arrange to meet the person(s) with whom you will be travelling prior to accepting a ride and use caution if accepting a ride from a stranger.

In the event of a GO Transit bus strike, all campuses and locations would likely experience heavier traffic volumes than usual, so please be patient.
