Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Men’s and women’s hockey teams both earn OUA playoff berths

For the first time in UOIT history, both the men's and women's hockey teams have qualified for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs in the same year.

The women’s hockey team earned its first-ever playoff berth on February 2 with a 4-2 win over Ryerson at the former Maple Leaf Gardens (now the Mattamy Athletic Centre). The women’s team finished the regular season with a conference record of 11-12-3, setting program highs for wins (11) and points (25).

The UOIT women’s team will face the Guelph Gryphons in round one of the playoffs. Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played at the Campus Ice Centre on Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. Fans in attendance will receive a UOIT playoff rally towel to cheer on the Ridgebacks.

Women's hockey team clinches playoff berth

The men’s hockey team earned its trip to the playoffs with a dramatic 6-5 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in the final regular season game on February 9. This marks the third playoff appearance for the men’s program in four years.

The Ridgebacks men’s team faces the Western Mustangs in the opening round. Game 2 of the best-fo-three series will be played at the Campus Ice Centre on Saturday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. Fans at this game will also receive a UOIT playoff rally towel to cheer on the Ridgebacks.
